And It Just Gets Easier

DJ is sick. He has a miserable cold. And I'm so glad.

As all of you who stay home with your kids know, when they start school, the years of no illnesses are suddenly gone. My kids were never sick. They never had an ear infection, strep throat, the flu. They were always healthy. I always got them the flu vaccine and I thought that was part of the reason why. Ha. Flu vaccine or no, they get sick when they start school, really sick. When my daughter started school, it was the first time I had to deal with the throw ups and I swear she got them every other week, it's no joke, every other week. I truly suffer post traumatic stress from it. I thought DJ would be okay because he was exposed to her when she was sick. Like with so many other things, I was wrong. Literally his kindergarten teacher told me that maybe we'd see faster improvement on his letter-sounds if we improved his attendance. What? How about get him to his speech class as the law requires, crack-head, that might help with letter-sounds. If that was an offer to clean up his vomit and administer his cough medicine I should've taken her up on it. He was so sick last year, it was pretty typical for him to only go to school 3 or 4 days a week all winter.

This year my kids each got a little cold early in the winter, lasted about 3 days with no fevers. DJ started to get a cold again on Thursday, I kept him home on Friday and now today too, and he's nearly well. I can't believe that an illness can only last 3 or 4 days. It's just like when you bring your baby home from the hospital, you can't see that one day in the future your baby really will sleep for a solid 10 hours at night....by themselves. We've had no serious illnesses this year, I keep waiting for it, preparing for it. Just check out my stock of Children's Tylenol, Delsym, Vitamins, and Campbell's soups. Hell, they'll probably all expire before I could ever use them all up....ahhhh, life is good.
