The holidays are over and as you may have guessed, my life as a shut in has commenced. Admittedly, I have gone to the library to get some books to help entertain myself. However, I'm going to need to take out nearly the whole library to do this shut in thing properly because I'm reading about a book a day. Of course that is in part because I haven't been able to sleep at night since I also became ill, just in time for the New Year. Ideal.
What I've been wondering of late, is if there is a whole set of words for conversations and speaking and an additional set of words for writing. Let's take for example the word cacophony. I've read this word at least once in the last 8 of 10 books I've read. I'm well aware of what it means, however, I've never heard this word spoken in real conversation before. The only time I've ever used it in conversation was to my sister when I said, "Is the word cacophony only for novels because I've never heard it spoken aloud before." She thought I could be right. I think we should change this, start using these never spoken words to spice up our vocabulary. No longer will we say, "I took the kids to the playland and it was complete madness, I wanted to slit my wrists." Now we say, "I took the kids to the playland and there was such a cacophony, I wanted to slit my wrists." See how much more sophisticated that sounds? Clearly, I'm all about the sophistication.
